Mission and Philosophy

Educational Philosophy Summary

Keswick Christian School exists to support the biblical training received by its students in the home and the church. This includes working to achieve a redemptive goal. Children are sinners who need to be redeemed and then submit to the authority of God in all areas of life. Parents and the Christian community, including the church and the Christian school, are God's instruments to bring this about. Therefore, working cooperatively with the home and the church, Keswick's goal for students is that they will acquire, believe, and apply the knowledge, understanding, skills, wisdom, and virtues to take dominion over creation to the glory of God and for the good of their neighbors.

What Is Christian Education at Keswick Christian School?

The great Reformer of the 16th century, Dr. Martin Luther, said, "I would advise no one to send his child where the Holy Scriptures are not supreme. Every Institution that does not increasingly pursue the study of God's Word becomes corrupt." At Keswick Christian School, we share that perspective. The Bible is the truth (John 17:17) and makes the child of God thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Bible reveals the mind of God, who is the absolute sovereign Creator who has revealed Himself in the Scriptures. Without teaching the student God's revealed perspective on all things, the child cannot know things as they really are. The goal of education is to teach the child to know, understand, believe and act in accordance with the truth.

At Keswick Christian School we are distinctively Christian and decidedly academic. The student is commanded to worship God with his whole mind as well as his heart, soul, and strength (Matthew 22:37-40). In order to take control over himself and creation for the glory of God and the good of others, the student must gain knowledge, skills, understanding, virtue, and wisdom. He also needs to overcome by God's strength the power of sin in his life. The arts and athletics are tools for the improvement of the student's ability to enjoy God's creation, worship Him, and serve others.

Keswick Christian School derives its authority to teach and discipline children from Christian parents as they fulfill their mandate from God to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. This delegated authority to teach children is for the benefit of God's children and the glory of God alone. The school's efforts to teach the biblical world and life view strengthens children who one day will lead their local churches in preaching the Gospel, baptizing others, and teaching men, women, boys, and girls all that the Lord Christ has taught them (Matthew 28:19-20). It is Keswick Christian School's privilege to have cooperated with parents and churches in this wonderful work of God since 1953.
